Downtown Tucson Urban Train Engagement

I am getting so excited for this amazing couple's wedding next month!  This session was the product of waking up super early way back in the Spring.  They wanted a train track engagement since they are getting married at Park Ave Event Center in Tucson-- an industrial wedding venue that is an old railroad warehouse.

We woke up super early for this sunrise engagement session, and it wasn't very warm in Tucson yet!  It was almost perfect timing as the train passed.  We quickly moved on to other parts of downtown Tucson for our photography.

It was such a treat to get some quiet roadways and the look of being the only people around in a busy urban setting.

Sunrise engagement sessions are my favorite, seriously.  They never conflict with anything else on my schedule, and after we are done, the couple has their entire day ahead of them, and I get to go home and go to sleep (or more likely just edit pictures).

5 Reasons to Participate in a Styled Shoot-Out!

If you have ever thought about participating in a styled shoot, I HIGHLY recommend it. It's how I built my wedding portfolio. It's how I met amazing industry professionals (photographers, planners, makeup artists, other vendors). It's how I learned more about posing, and styling, and angles, and lenses. Workshops can cost $100s of dollars, but styled shoots are much less expensive--and although there is no formal instruction, you are pretty much guaranteed to learn something.
AND you get great photographs.
Win. Win.

Here are my top 5 reasons for participating in a styled shoot!

1. Getting to know other photographers--Every styled shoot I have attended and/or planned has been a great experience for everyone involved! Styled shoots are a great opportunity to make friendships and have a good time for learning tips and tricks for posing, detail shots, and technical skills while shooting a mock wedding.

2. Portfolio building.  Setting up a styled shoot is not easy or free--your small fee gets you  designer dresses, beautiful models, gorgeous florals and desserts all for use in your social media and website portfolios. Groups are usually small so everyone has ample opportunity to photograph the details while still making friendships in an intimate setting!

3. SEO and exposure-- When you participate in these shoots, you Tag your vendors, vendors tag you, you link back to each other on your websites and social media.  You build relationships, get referrals.  It's a win, win with little cost to everyone!

4. Experience.  What better way to build your portfolio and make mistakes or take risks than in a styled-shoot experience?  You are bound to learn something whether you are new or experienced!

5. Fun!  Styled shoots are guaranteed to be a good time--you get to do what you love--photography! Hang out with other like-minded folks, and no pressure from paying customers. It is guaranteed to be a recipe for success!!

Downtown Tucson Playground Maynards Senior Session

Its hard to believe that this session was four months ago when school was letting out, seniors were getting ready for the summer or their new careers.  Now University of Arizona and Tucson Highschool students are back at school, learning and having fun with all of their friends!  That "PLAY" wall isn't even there anymore, last time I checked though!! Isn't it crazy how fast things have been changing in downtown Tucson? I am always amazed at the beauty and development!

I have gotten a few inquiries lately for senior photos so I thought it would be a good time to talk about this senior session that I never shared!!

This was actually a 2-location sunrise senior session, and this is part II in downtown.  If you want the opportunity to avoid photo bombers and get some really great light, wake up early!  Because this session was in May, we had to get up super early for this session.  So I met her along with her mom at 5:30 am!  It was great though because by the time we were done at the UofA, so many others were there with their photographers and we were on our way downtown where we got these great photographs around Congress and Toole area.  By the time we were done, traffic was picking up and more people were walking around.  We ended early and had the whole day ahead of us (always a plus to waking up early!)

I am booking Tucson Arizona Highschool and College Seniors for photos now!  Contact me

Gates Pass Downtown Tucson Engagement Session

These are the engagement photos you get when you wake up at 5 am and head to Gatespass at Sunrise.  This session was back in April and we didn't get any bold sunrise colors that we sometimes see in Tucson, but the hazy horizon helped make the photographs amazing.

Any sunrise photo session is worth waking up early.

Seriously, there are so many benefits!  There are less photobombers--you get vast open spaces to yourself which always makes for more intimate photographs.  Places like Gates Pass and Mount Lemmon are always busy at sunset! Lots of hikers, families, other photographers with customers or photographing the night's sky.  Sunrise engagement sessions are always quiet, fun, and intimate, no matter where you go!

Looking back on this session several months later, I smile thinking about the love these two have for each other and how much it naturally shines through.  You can really see how much fun they had and how comfortable they were with each other and in front of the camera.  This is the type of session I love.

We started at Gates Pass, it was beautiful, quiet, serene.  We explored all around as the sun rose.  We got warmed up and comfortable before heading downtown for breakfast.  We shot a few photos near 4th Avenue.  The 4th Avenue Street Fair was going on, but there was no one around.  We were still enjoying the morning before the rest of the world awoke.  We snapped some shots in front of some of the booths and got some unique shots.  We walked around and got some great photos at a mural downtown and it ended up being a great, fun morning.  We toasted with a mimosa and some local Tucson beer, and had the whole day ahead of us!

I can't wait until these two tie the knot back home in Colorado!
